Besson Scottish Solo and Quartet Finals
3/02/07
The Quintet and a few members who qualified at the West of
Scotland Contest last year, travelled to Bathgate for the
Scottish Solo and Quartet Finals. The Quintet were in the older
Youth Ensembles (16-21) this year and just missed out on the top
spot,
but won much praise from adjudicator Lesley Howie. They
had been National Champions for three years in a row in the
Intermediate section (under 16), but in their first year in the
under 21’s, they faced much more experienced ensembles from
around the country. Erin McSporran and Alison Campbell
played very well in the Junior Solos, but were unlucky to be placed this
time.
Congratulations to Mark
Good, as he became the Scottish Youth Solo Champion
of 2007. He is the 1st
Campbeltown Brass member to win the title since
current Black Dyke player
Morvern Gilchrist won it back in 1994! He
also picked up the gold medal as Scottish Youth (under 18) Solo Champion as
well, well
done Mark!!
