Campbeltown Brass

Campbeltown Brass Quintet

The Campbeltown Brass Quintet was originally just a four-piece ensemble. In 2003, four members of the band, who had played together informally on previous occasions, decided to get some music and start practicing together! These players were Stephanie Mitchell, Lynne Campbell, Eilidh Brian and Mark Good.

Over a couple of months, the quartet began to get used to each other musically and playing in such an exposed group. In November 2003, they entered their first competition and came away with first prize!

During the next few months, the Campbeltown Brass Quartet began playing in concerts in and around Campbeltown, entertaining the local people. They also entered more competitions and achieved more success along the way.

At this point, the four members felt something was missing instrument-wise. So they approached the band’s EEb bass player, Ewan Bannatyne, who had played at the odd concert with them, to formally join the ensemble. In Summer 2006, Jennifer McCormick joined the Quintet in place of Elildh Brian, who had recently left. The Campbeltown Brass Quintet was now complete.

The current line-up consists of:

Ewan Bannatyne (Eb bass)
Jennifer McCormick (Flugel)
Mark Good (trombone)
Lynne Campbell (tenor horn)
Stephanie Mitchell (cornet)

As there is no brass instructor in Campbeltown, the quintet members carry out all their own preparation, but occasionally benefit on outside help and tuition. Their hard work and effort is paying off, with them competing in many contests now and getting good results.
