As
every summer comes around, we lose around 5 or 6 members, due to players
leaving town to continue their further education. Its no
surprise the band has totally changed, bar 3 or 4 members since
1999!
We have always had the conveyor belt of 'young ones' coming
through the ranks to replace these 'veteran' players over the
years, it takes a little time to get adjusted, but before long,
we are up and running again, and competing.
By Sept 2005, the contest band will have lost 7 players,
(Principal, Bumper-up, Soprano Cornets, 2 Horns, Baritone and a
Percussionist), all who have left for universities in Glasgow
and Stirling. So a lot of these young players
will be getting the call-up to the contest band and thrown in at
the deep end!!
We have the youth band practice on Tues nights for these
promising young players, the senior members also lend a hand
with private tuition. Some of them have only been playing for
a matter of weeks, but they're keen and that's what matters,
for bringing on the next generation of members for the contest
band.

December 2005 at the Scottish Youth Championships, in Glasgow's
Royal Concert Hall.
