Music: The Young Amadeus from the Band's From the Mull of Kintyre CD.
Memorial Concert for Jimmy Taylor was the culmination of many weeks of hard work by all the various band members, right through from the Beginners band to the Contest Band. A varied programme included Kintyre School’s Pipe Band, CGS Choir and guest soprano Rebecca Watson who gave a moving rendition of Lakme’s Flower Duet with Damaris Chalmers.
It was a lovely occasion, with ex players returning to play with the band and 2 pieces which allowed the Pipe Band and the Brass Band to play together. The finale was a massed band, which included brass players of all ages, to play “The Floral Dance” and “Young Amadeus” two pieces which the band are very well known for and which were most recently played at the band’s 25th anniversary concert and conducted by Gordon Evans.
Since the concert the band has received great praise from those who attended, saying how they enjoyed the concert greatly, and what a great tribute it was to Jimmy Taylor, whose amazing contribution to the band, and indeed the community could not have gone unacknowledged. Thanks must go to all those who made the evening possible, their sterling efforts made this concert a night that will be prominent in the band’s history for years to come.

difficult to say what my favourite moment was, because the whole evening was filled with such wonderful music. I think that when the senior band played their first tune, that was a really special moment – to hear such a great sound it was just amazing. When they played ‘The Gael’ it was nothing less than spectacular. It was just so dramatic, so moving, so exciting and so totally superb. When all the bands came together at the end and the youngest played together with the oldest and with former members of the band, there was a real sense of community - everyone working together and still making such a beautiful sound. It was wonderful to see and a total pleasure to listen to. True musicianship.
favourite moment was playing the last two pieces with the Juniors. It was nice to play together especially in the Bands favourite the Young Amadeus!
me personally, the two best moments of the concert were playing the three pieces with the Junior band with Sean my son on 3rd cornet with his Mum and Grumps (Grandfather) in the audience and hitting the the high bass notes in "the Gael" with the band building crescendo upon crescendo and the pipes thundering away - Magic.
I also particularly enjoyed Becks singing Gabriel’s Oboe and the Toccata. I think we missed a trick there; we should have played that one on Halloween, it’s real spooky :-)
I hope that Jimmy thought it a fitting tribute.
with the Kintyre Schools Pipe Band was my favourite piece of the evening.
It was spine-tingling and very dynamic.
