In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the band was out in force playing Carols in Main Street, at the Co-op's and Tesco's supermarkets.  We thank the people of Campbeltown for their generous giving and support, especially during this economic climate.  Over £1000 were raised for band funds.

Christmas Concert

The band held a pancake tea in Stronvaar Bowling Club on Saturday 13 November 2010.  Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day, whether manning the stalls, serving teas, washing up, or playing with the band.  Special thanks, however, have to go to Margaret Bannatyne and Susan Campbell who made the pancakes and Dorothy Ralston who kept the coffee flowing.  The event was, once again, a great success with over £500 being raised for band funds.

Pancake Tea

In November 2010, the Junior Band took part in the Youth Championships of the Scottish Brass Band Festival in Perth. Competing in the twenty-band strong Under 14 section, the band played early in the day and were on the bus on the way home when the results were finally announced.  It was a delighted band who returned to Campbeltown as newly-crowned Scottish Youth Band Champions.  The following review of our performance was taken from Brass Band World magazine: “…the splendid winner, Campbeltown Junior Brass…sounded strong, with musical soloists.  The band’s youngest player, Erin McLellan, was celebrating her eighth birthday.  The performance of Lead Kindly Light was beautifully blended and shaped – a touching performance that was a highlight of the whole day.”

Perth Contest

On 11 September 2010, the Junior Band travelled to Newtongrange for Brass in the Park and came away with a Gold Award.

Brass in the Park

The band is delighted to welcome back former member Fiona Oman.  Fiona played cornet in the band several years ago, and has already settled in well on the solo cornet bench.  Great to have you back, Fiona!

Welcome back

Congratulations to Donald and Katrina Barr on the birth of Grace Alison Barr, born on 29 December 2010.  There is a cornet and a band t-shirt already set aside for her.  The whole band wish you all the very best.
