West of Scotland Solo and Ensemble Contest
The next main event on the band's horizon is the Brass in the Park Contest at Newtongrange on Saturday 10th September. The Junior Band will be competing in the Development Section which is for players 16 years and under (as on January 1st 2011) with one overage Bass player. This is a class higher than last year so the pressure is on!
The Junior Band will leave Campbeltown early on the Saturday morning, travel to Newtongrange to compete, then after the results travel up to Glenrothes. There we will be meeting up with members and families of Tullis Russell Youth Band for a social evening which will include games, karaoke and the inevitable raffle - no band event is complete with out one!
After all this fun and activity on the Saturday, it is back to work on the Sunday starting off with breakfast at the Tullis Russell band room, followed by a workshop funded by SBBA at which the lead trombone player of the RSNO will be coming to talk about solo playing and about different styles and techniques. All together this should be a good trip away for the Junior Band and an experience not to be missed!
We would like to say a massive thank you to our distinguished guests, family, friends, committee members and every single player, past and present, for making this evening so special.
We also wish to thank the Campbeltown folks, who are renowned for their generosity and support. On behalf of the band, we give you our sincere thanks.
